Brewers Community Foundation winning despite on-field struggles

MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Fewer seats are being filled at Miller Park in a rough season for the Milwaukee Brewers – but the fans that do show up are more generous than ever.

For four years, raffle tickets have been sold at all Brewers’ home games to benefit the team’s Community Foundation. The $1 million sales mark for the season was reached Sunday – the earliest it’s ever been reached. The raffle tickets cost $2.

The winner of the drawing gets half the total proceeds, while the other half goes to non-profit groups that focus on education, health, recreation, and other needs.

One fan took home about $15,000 Sunday. The biggest prize was $30,000 on Opening Day in April.

Unlike some teams that are not doing well, the Brewers continue to attract good crowds to Miller Park. An average of just over 31,600 fans have attended Milwaukee home games this season – down by 35,000-plus after the same number of games in 2012.
