MADISON, WI (WSAU) - Senate and Assembly committees will both meet February 6th to advance a mining bill to the floor for debate.
Republicans have said they wish to pass the bill quickly to stimulate job creation. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said he hopes to have the full Senate vote on the bill around March 5.
Democrats have proposed their own mining bill, which keeps environmental regulations close to what they are right now. The Assembly and Senate committees will decide to move it to the floor or kill it in committee two weeks after the one and only public hearing on the proposal.
