GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The Port of Green Bay ended short of a two million tonnage year and saw shipping traffic decline as well.
The shipping season ended December 21st.
Tonnage numbers were just over 1.9 million, behind last year’s mark by an estimated 11%.
There was big drop in salt shipments, around 40%. And the increasing low cost of natural gas effected coal shipping. Coal declined by 11% and is expected to continue to fall into 2013 season.
There was a ten percent decrease in the number of ships compared to 2011. There were 170 ships through the port in 2012 compared to 188 last year.
