Kevin Smith pays tribute to David R. Ellis

From WENN.com

Director Kevin Smith has paid tribute to fellow moviemaker David R. Ellis following his death on Monday (07Jan13), hailing him as ""one of the most interesting people"" he has ever met.

Ellis passed away in Johannesburg, South Africa at the age of 60, although his cause of death remained unknown as WENN went to press.

Samuel L. Jackson led the tributes to the moviemaker, who directed him in 2006 thriller Snakes On A Plane, and Smith has added his own memories of Ellis, his collaborator on 2010's Cop Out.

In a series of posts on his Twitter.com page, Smith writes, ""Oh, no! David Ellis died! Director of Snakes on a Plane & Final Destination 2, he also shot the car chases in Cop Out. David Ellis was such a nice guy. Champion surfer too.

""Ellis told me a story about nearly getting car-jacked. Stunt man that he was, he did a 0 to 60 spinning reverse. Agog, the jackers ran off. Rest in Peace David Ellis - one of the most interesting people I've ever met. Thanks for the assist. Godspeed you to your final destination.""

Actress Ali Larter, who was directed by Ellis in Final Destination 2, tweeted, ""My heart goes out to his family. He was a sweet man"", while her co-star AJ Cook ?added, ""Such a positive, passionate man. It was an honour to work with him.""

Sara Paxton, the star of Ellis' 2011 movie Shark Night 3D, mourned, ""So deeply saddened to hear the tragic news of the untimely death of my friend David Ellis. Such a wonderful human being, and director"", and Katharine McPhee, who also appeared in the horror, declared: ""So sad. He made everything so fun.""
