UNDATED (WKZO) – Coach Brian Kelly could be eating his words after telling the press last week he had no intention of leaving Notre Dame Football. It has been confirmed that Kelly met with the Eagles staff on Tuesday and has scheduled a second meeting for this weekend according to reports.
The rumor on the sports scene is that Kelly is interviewing for the Eagles head coaching position. Philadelphia has been seeking a replacement after longtime head coach Andy Reid was fired following a disappointing season leaving the Eagles with a 4-12 record.
Kelly is a leading contender for the position according to sports writer and golf pro Greg Johnson. Johnson told Michael Patrick Shiels, on Michigan’s Big Show Thursday, that Kelly is being eyed by the Eagles because of his proven success on the field leading the Fighting Irish to a 12-0 regular season and on to the Discover BCS National Championship, playing for their first national title since 1988. Check out Johnson’s full analysis above.
Kelly’s current has a current contract with Notre Dame through 2016. The Eagles have so far interviewed six candidates and have plans to meet with more contenders for the position of head coach.
