ST. PAUL, MN (WTAQ) - The husband of a former Wausau area woman was charged in St. Paul Minnesota Thursday with killing her.
37-year-old Jeffrey Trevino of St. Paul was expected to appear in Ramsey County Court Thursday afternoon on two counts of second-degree murder.
He had been jailed since last weekend – and as a result, prosecutors had a 10 a.m. deadline today to either charge Trevino, or let him go.
The alleged victim, 30-year-old Kira Steger Trevino, was never found after she was reported missing last Friday. She failed to show up for work at a clothing store she managed in the Mall of America, and her car was found Saturday in a ramp at the mall where she did not normally park.
St. Paul Police said they had probable cause to know that Kira was dead. That’s because they found a large blood stain in the couple’s bedroom that was shaped like a head and torso. Also, officials said it was not like the woman to be gone so long.
The husband’s lawyer, John Conard, said his family is grieving. He said they hope Kira will be found alive – and if not, they police will find the real killer because, “they’re pointing in the wrong direction at this time.”
Kira Steger Trevino is a 2001 graduate of DC Everest High School in Schofield.
