DNR recycling study shows room for improvement

MADISON, WI (WSAU) -  A new study from the Department of Natural Resources shows Wisconsinites can do a better job of recycling.

The study claims that about 19,000 tons of beverage bottles are thrown in the the garbage and end up in landfills every year, wasting about 64-million dollars worth of plastic.

Anna McCabe from the DNR says many people feel it’s just an occasional milk jug, laundry soap container, or soda bottle, but it adds up. She says those plastics can be made into new usable products and that keeps them out of landfills as well as supporting jobs in the plastic industry.

There are many items that can be recycled. You should contact your solid waste department or waste hauler to find out what is collected in your neighborhood.
