The first trailer for The Place Beyond the Pines bubbled over with mood, only scratching the surface of the multi-generational story and focusing squarely on the drama's stark look and inherent tension. The latest poster for the movie follows suit, even subverting expectations on the popular ""giant heads"" trend. Stars Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, and Eva Mendes get their moment in the spotlight, but they're forcefully pushed to the top to make way for storm clouds sweeping over a suburban landscape. Pretty much the definition of ""foreboding.""
We caught Place Beyond the Pines at this year's Toronto Film Festival, and can say on good authority that the movie lives up to its morose aesthetic. Director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) once again finds beauty in the dilapidated, serving parts to Gosling and Cooper that solidify them as the top of the current crop.
Check out the poster below and prepare for this gut punch of a movie when it arrives in theaters on March 29, 2013.
