UNDATED (WSAU-Wheeler News) Wisconsin cheese production grew at a faster pace in February than the nation as a whole. Cheese factories in the Badger State made just over 226-million pounds for the month — 5-percent more than in February of 2014. The state’s increase was noticeably higher than the national jump of 3.9-percent from the previous year.
The U-S-D-A said the nation’s cheese output totaled 884-million pounds for the month. Second-place California produced almost 190-million pounds in February — an increase of 2.3-percent from the year before. Wisconsin had a whopping 11.5-percent hike in Cheddar production. The state also made 7.4-percent more American cheeses, and 4.6-percent more Italian cheeses.
