LA CROSSE, Wis. (WSAU) - Officials are trying to figure out how a handgun ended up in the storm sewer and why. La Crosse maintenance workers found the Browning 9 millimeter handgun Friday. They say it was lying in about six inches of water in the storm sewers below Vine Street and 11th Street.
Police say the weapon was not in workable condition, and was not loaded. They were able to read the serial number and determine it was not reported stolen, but they don’t know who the owner is yet.
