Green Bay Metro pushing ADA paratransit riders to take the bus instead

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay Metro is looking to push some of its 3,500 monthly ADA paratransit riders to take the bus instead.

Transit Director Tom Wittig hopes the 12-month pilot program will help taxpayers save a couple thousand dollars a month.

A one-way paratransit rider cost taxpayers $24 in subsidies.  They also pay a $3 fee for a one way trip.  But if they start taking the bus instead, it will be free.  Up to one attendant can also travel on the bus for free.

Wittig says this is an option for paratransit riders.  There won’t be a fee for them, plus they will have the convenience of traveling on any of the fixed route buses when they want.

Paratransit riders have to call 48-hours in advance.
