MENOMONIE, WI (WTAQ) - UW-Stout is getting $550,000 to study how wetlands are affected by new development.
The National Science Foundation is paying for a five-year analysis.
Scientists will determine how environmental changes affect animal and plant life – especially seasonal patches of wetlands in forest areas.
The research will take place in the Chippewa County Forest near New Auburn, and the Chippewa-Moraine state recreation area near a section of the Ice Age Trail.
Stout biology professor Amanda Little says she hopes conservation officials can use the research in protecting fragile eco-systems.
