Kind supports air traffic controller funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSAU) -  A Wisconsin Congressman has signed onto a bill to restore funding for air traffic control tower operators. 3rd District Democrat Ron Kind supports House Resolution #1432, called the Air Traffic Control Tower Funding Restoration Act.

If passed, it would keep 149 towers open using unobligated funds already in the FAA budget. No new funds would need to be appropriated in this fiscal year.

Kind says he’s glad the FAA delayed their final decision. “This potentially has the chance of slowing down regional commerce and commercial air service, so I’m glad the FAA has slowed down a little bit and delayed a final decision until June.” The Congressman believes not staffing the air traffic control towers would harm economic development, national security and passenger safety.

The Congressman believes the sequestration process is the wrong way for Washington to cut its expenses. “The sequestration is latin for stupid spending cuts. We need to be smarter in how we govern our country and the allocation of the resources that we do have.”

Kind says another example of bad sequestration cuts involves elimination of Head Start funds. “These kids are three and four years old only once in their life, and if we miss this opportunity now to invest in their future, they’re going to be behind the ball.”
