MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - The state DNR says at least six hunting dogs have been killed by wolves in Wisconsin this year.
The latest incident was in Bayfield County, where a hound was helping a hunter in the town of Bell when the animal was attacked and killed.
The DNR announced the incident, saying hunters should be aware of the conflicts involving wolves and hunting dogs – and to use caution in the area.
A judge in Madison said hunting dogs could not be used in Wisconsin’s inaugural wolf hunting season that begins in mid-October, for fear those dogs would be hurt or killed.
