MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin teachers will hold a rally Friday night at the State Capitol – and then they’ll go to Chicago Saturday, to show their solidarity with their Windy City brethren who are on strike.
Bob Peterson, who heads the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association, expects a couple hundred teachers from the Badger State to go to the Chicago event.
It’s being billed as a “Wisconsin-style” rally.
Teachers were among the tens of thousands of people who demonstrated in Madison in early 2011 against the state law which virtually ended their collective bargaining privileges.
Many Wisconsin schools were closed for 1 to 4 days, when teachers called in sick and attended those protests. The union law has been in place for over a year.
