WAUSAU, WI (WTAQ) - A Wausau woman was ordered to stand trial Tuesday for allegedly killing her boyfriend’s dog.

Hundreds of people carried signs outside the Marathon County Courthouse in support of the dog, and to show support for animal rights in general.  Authorities required spectators to walk through metal detectors.

20-year-old Sean Janas waived her right to preliminary hearing on felony counts of animal mistreatment and intentionally poisoning an animal. She’s also charged with a misdemeanor count of obstructing police.

Janas is scheduled to enter pleas at her next court hearing on November 12th.

A trial date could also be set at that time. Prosecutors said Janas poisoned her boyfriend’s four-year-old dog Mary, a German shepherd and Labrador mix.

Officials said she tortured the animal before Mary died in June. Janas remains in the Marathon County Jail.
