MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Experts say the dangers of talking and driving are clear, but many teenagers feel impervious.

Even if their distracted driving doesn’t cause an accident, their wallets could be hurt.

A new state law taking effect next Thursday will make it illegal for teenagers to talk on their cell phones while they are driving.

Car accidents are the leading cause of death for American teenagers.

The new law prohibits anyone with a probationary license or instructional permit from talking on a cellular phone when they are driving.

Also included are adults with suspended or revoked licenses, and any new Wisconsin resident under the age of 21, or with less than three years’ driving experience.
