The St. Norbert Green Knights mens hockey team opened the season Tuesday night at the Cornerstone Community Center by unfurling the NCAA Division III National Championship banner won last year. They certainly know the drill. It's the second straight championship banner and the third in the last five years for SNC. Head Coach Tim Coughlin's team then hit the ice and defeated Concordia 4-0. Two minutes into the game, Erik Cooper tallied for the Knights but the one goal advantage held until there was just under 6 minutes remaining in the second period against a feisty Concordia club. Kyle Stroh scored an unassisted goal while St. Norbert was shorthanded to give them some breathing room. Sam Dougherty and Carl Ekstrom lit the lamp in the third period and goalie David Jacobsen stopped all 17 shots he faced for the shutout victory. The Green Knights will open their final season as members of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association this weekend with a home and home series with UW Stevens Point, hosting the Pointers Friday night at 7 at the Cornerstone before traveling to Point on Saturday night.
