GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt says he will not veto last week’s council vote that rescinded an already approved conditional use permit for a waste to energy plant.
The council felt that Oneida Seven Generations Cooperation lied to them during the run-up to approval at both the plan committee and city council in March of 2011.
OSG has hinted at a possible lawsuit in the past, but were not been able to be reached for comment Monday afternoon.
In a statement last week, OSG says it remains their intent to build the facility.
The trash burning facility bakes trash at high temperatures which produces gases used to power generators that create electricity, which is then sold back to the grid. The technology was considered "green" because it reuses waste.
