Existing home sales up in September, median price up as well

MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ) - Home sales continued to rise in Wisconsin in September – but not as much as in the recent past.

The state’s Realtors Association said Monday that about 5,100 existing homes were sold by the group’s members last month. That’s a 4.6% increase from the previous September.

Renny Diedrich, who chairs the board of the state realtors, said the growth was more modest than the first eight months of this year – when sales grew just over 21%.

Diedrich blamed weaker job growth and a more sluggish economy for the slowdown in home sales.

Average prices went up for the seventh month in a row. The median price for a new home was $135,000 last month, about $300 more than the year before.
