RACINE, WI (WTAQ) - A Racine teenager has been ordered to stand trial for allegedly stealing an anniversary ring from the hand of his dying mother, and selling it to help his pregnant girlfriend.
18-year-old Juan Ramirez waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Racine County Circuit Court. He’s scheduled to enter pleas November 15th to charges of felony bail jumping, and stealing property directly from a person or a corpse.
Authorities said Ramirez took the $4,500 ring while his mother was in a medically-induced sleep on Monday. He claimed the ring did not sell for the amount it was worth.
Officials said Ramirez’s mother gave her son an ultimatum – give back the ring, or move out. He said he didn’t have it – so she called police and pressed charges.
