FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - A state appeals court ruled Wednesday morning that an Oshkosh man did not have his religious freedom violated, just because he got a speeding ticket.

Jeffrey Manke was ticketed for driving 71 miles an hour in a 55-zone in Fond du Lac County last October.

Manke tried to convince the Second District Appellate Court that the speeding laws violated his religious freedoms, because they specifically prohibit a “person” from speeding.

He contended that Bible defines him as a “man,” not a “person.”

Fond du Lac County District Attorney called the argument “non-sensical.” And the appellate judges in Waukesha agreed.

They confirmed that Manke is a man – and under the law, it also makes him a person.
