REDGRANITE, WI (WTAQ) - The maker of a controversial political sign in Redgranite insists people are misinterpreting his message, but the imagery tells a different picture.
Traveling through Redgranite along Highway 21 you’ll see a yellow sign with a picture of a noose and the words Hang Obama in large bold red letters.
Get closer and the sign actually reads “Hang in there Obama”.
Sign maker Thomas Savka says he is an Obama supporter. He says everyone is always picking on him and his message was to say stay in there.
Residents find the sign offensive and it’s getting plenty of highway gawkers.
The imagery and words used also conjures up America’s past of lynching.
Savka says color has nothing to do with it; this was about getting people’s attention and they are reading the sign wrong.
