GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay fire officials say woman who suffered substantial burns in a weekend apartment fire died Monday.
The fire broke out sometime before 10:30 p.m. Saturday at 1785 Edison Street. Someone in the apartment called 911 after noticing smoke coming from a small apartment the victim occupied.
After quickly knocking a couch fire, fire crews vented the smoke filled apartment and began a search.
Green Bay Interim Fire Chief Mike Nieft says a 60-year-old woman was found in the hallway with substantial burns. Nieft says they type of burns she suffered were hard to survive.
She was rushed to the hospital and later transported to the Columbia St. Mary's Regional Burn Center in Milwaukee and died Monday.
The victim was identified Monday as Patricia Loudbear.
Nieft says the last fire fatality in the city was back in 2010.
Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire
