Court denies Brown County inmate's contempt appeal

WAUSAU, WI (WTAQ) - An appeals court has ruled that a Brown County judge acted within her authority when tacking on a year to a prison inmate's sentence following a profanity-laced exchange in court.

On Wednesday, the appeals court said that Judge Sue Bischel is allowed to add a dozen contempt citations to the end of Cesar Deleon's prison term, instead of allowing him to serve it concurrently.

However, the court did note that Bischel wrongly calculated the number of contempt citations - dropping the number from 14 to 12, and cut the sentence from 420 to 360 days.

Deleon was charged with assaulting a guard at the Green Bay Correctional Institution by allegedly throwing urine at him.

At a pre-trial hearing, Deleon was upset that Judge Bischel only signed transportation orders for two of the six inmates he wanted available to testify.
