Fox Valley Korean War veteran buried with full military honors

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - An Appleton soldier has been laid to rest with full military honors more than 60 years after his death.

Private First Class Arthur Hopfensperger died in the line of duty during the Korean War in 1950.

"The family just feels relief finally that he's back here where he should be," PFC Hopfensperger's cousin who shares the same name told FOX 11.

The other Arthur Hopfensperger felt this is a day he never thought would come.

"We thought that they were never really gonna find him and finally they did, which was a surprise.  It's kind of tragic in a way, his mom and dad are gone, but the rest of the family's at ease that he's finally back," said Arthur.

PFC Hopfensberger enlisted in the military when he was 17.  He died in battle at 18 in 1950.  Since then his family was left in the dark. His nephew Robin told FOX 11 he can't thank enough the people who brought his uncle's remains home.

"Nice to know that the government doesn't give up.  I mean, 62 years to bring someone home, it's a good feeling," said Robin Hofensperger.

For more than an hour following the memorial service the Patriot Guard Riders stood out at the bural site in silence with American Flags to show respect for Privae First Class Hopfensperger.
