PIERCE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - A western Wisconsin man is due in court October 23rd on two new criminal charges connected with a fatal traffic accident in March.
54-year-old George Budd of Beldenville was charged this week in Pierce County with felony counts of negligent homicide and causing injury by reckless driving.
The crash killed 47-year-old Julie Nelson of Hammond on St. Patrick’s Day. Prosecutors said Budd was turning left into his driveway when an oncoming motorcycle driven by Nelson’s husband slammed into the truck.
Investigators said Julie Nelson was thrown 60 feet from the bike – and her husband was thrown over the hood of Budd’s pickup truck. Both cyclists were wearing helmets.
Officials said Budd first claimed that he had nothing to drink before the accident – but he later admitted to having a couple drinks. His blood alcohol level was 0.11, over the state’s limit of 0.08.
Budd was charged in June with his second drunk driving offense and a related charge. He has pleaded not guilty to both.
