DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) - St. Norbert College in De Pere has been selected as the site for the Medical College of Wisconsin's satellite campus in Northeast Wisconsin.

According to a news release Monday, MCW officials identified facilities at various locations for its classrooms, offices, laboratories, student services and support.

“Outstanding site options exist in both regions,” said John R. Raymond, Sr., MD, president and CEO of MCW in the release. “We are very grateful for the high level of interest, innovation and thoughtfulness that went into the creation of the various options in the Central Wisconsin and Green Bay regions. Truly, we were presented with many outstanding options. Preferred sites have been identified in both regions and we will begin the negotiation process. If need be, we have the flexibility to develop our programs at other superior site locations.”

Back in June, MCW made the announcement it would expand to the Green Bay area, as well as Central Wisconsin.

MCW will opem negotiations with St. Norbert College to share the school’s new science building for the medical education program’s classrooms, offices and laboratories. It is expected that Green Bay area MCW students will have access to SNC student services and support.

Despite passing on other Green Bay area sites, like University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, MCW says it plans on working with the regional education systems and Green Bay hospitals to provide faculty for the medical curriculum.

MCW’s community-based medical education program in Central Wisconsin will be located in various locations, such as Marshfield, Stevens Point, Wausau and possibly Wisconsin Rapids. MCW will go into negotiations to locate various MCW operations at the Liberty Mutual Building, the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County and Northcentral Technical College – all in Wausau.

Faculty for the Central Wisconsin locations will come from the UW system, technical colleges and health systems in the Central Wisconsin region.

The release says it will cost between $11 million and $12 million to develop the education programs in both regions.

The goal is to open both programs in July of 2015, targeting about 15 students for the initial class, expanding to 25 in the following years.
