FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - After nearly six hours of testimony in Fond du Lac County court, 19-year-old Carly Ottery of Campbellsport was sentenced to one year in jail for causing the deaths of three of her friends in a February traffic crash.
Ottery was driving an SUV with 8 other girls from the Campbellsport High School soccer team. She was traveling well over 100 miles per hour when they hit a known bump in the road. She lost control and the SUV flipped several times before landing in a field.
Judge Dale English did not go along with a no contest plea deal that called for five years probation. English sentenced Ottery to a year in county jail and six years of probation. Ottery must perform 100 hours of community service, must stay away from bars and taverns and is prohibited from drinking alcohol.
Katie Berg, Caitlin Scannell, and Sabrina Stahl were killed in the crash. Six other girls, including Ottery, were injured.
The group of girls had left an overnight sleepover before the crash occurred. Alcohol was not involved.
