The new look Green Bay Phoenix Men’s basketball team opened the 2017-18 season wtih a 100-70 exhibition victory over Ripon College at the Resch Center Monday night.
Third year Head Coach Linc Darner has nine new faces on his roster this year and his first impressions were favorable. Six players scored in double figures as Green Bay put up and even 50 points in each half, shooting 61.9% from the floor on the night and knocking down 14 of 27 three point attempts.
Freshman guard P.J. Pipes led the way with 18 points while sophomore Kam Hankerson added 15, thirteen of those in the first half when he made his first four shot attempts including a pair of three pointers. Returning senior Khalil Small added 12.
The Red Hawks shot 35 percent from the floor and the defending Midwest Conference tournament champions were led by Isaac Masters with 13 points.
Green Bay was awarded a second exhibition by the NCAA earlier this month and on Sunday, they’ll travel to Minneapolis top play the Minnesota Gophers in a game where all of the proceeds will be sent to the Puerto Rico Hurricane relief effort.
