The purging of the pen is underway in Milwaukee. The Brewers have given Jose Veras his outright release. He'll become a free agent if not claimed on waivers. Veras spent just one season in Milwaukee after the Brewers traded Casey McGehee to the Pittsburgh Pirates to get him. He had a 5-4 record with a 3.63 ERA but management was not happy with the 40 walks he issued. Two more relievers are eligible for arbitration and it's unlikely the Brewers will be willing to roll the dice and have to pay more for Manny Parra and Kameron Loe. They could also be on their way out. The Brewers bullpen was the worst in the major leages in 2012, blowing 29 saves, taking 33 losses and posting an earned run average of 4.66.
