ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) - An Ashwaubenon man was arrested during the early Memorial Day morning for test firing his handgun before applying for a concealed carry permit. The 34-year-old allegedly fired several rounds through an apartment garage wall in the 900 block of Pilgrim Way. One bullet traveled through a neighboring apartment window, which prompted a call. The man told officers he didn’t know anything about guns but wanted to try it out before class. Lt. Jody Crocker says the man didn't think the bullets would go through the garage wall. The man was going to apply for a concealed carry permit for his .38 caliber Ruger handgun. Police arrested the man and are recommending charges of Endangering Safety by Reckless Use of a Firearm, which is a misdemeanor. Crocker says depending on what the ultimate charges are, the a first degree reckless endangering safety charge would be a felony and would prevent the man from legally owning a firearm.
