GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The Bassmasters Elite Series fishing tournament will be making a stop in Green Bay this summer. The announcement coming down Thursday that the ongoing tournament will here June 28 through July 1st. “Given that this is a city of championships, with a championship football team, a championship amusement park, and even a championship ball room dancer, today we are announcing that Green Bay has been chosen as the Mystery Lake host which is accumulation of this year’s tour” Mayor Jim Schmitt. 99 professional anglers will make Green Bay their fishing pond and along with them coverage on ESPN. They will be competing for a $600,000 purse. Schmitt estimates the economic impact around a $1 million. While the event is by invitation only for the anglers, the city will be making sort of a mini fishing like festival for the public down by the Bay Beach Municipal boat launch. “All the anglers from across the country that follow bass fishing, and there are millions of them, have been talking about this event, so it’s huge, and as bass fishing goes, this is the highest level on competitions that is out there.” Elite Series Angler Travis Manson calls De Pere home when he’s not on the road.
