The former Baywatch star, a longtime animal rights campaigner, was shocked by all the neglected animals she saw living on the streets in Istanbul, where she has spent the last few weeks.
Anderson has now written an open letter asking Turkish pet owners to consider spaying or neutering their dogs and cats.
In the message, posted on her Facebook.com page, she writes, ""On leaving Istanbul... I urge Turkey's citizens to help put an end to the animal overpopulation crisis by spaying and neutering their dogs and cats.
""In Turkey, the streets are teeming with strays, and the few shelters are completely overcrowded. The only solution to this problem is to spay and neuter in order to prevent further unwanted animals.
""The number of cats and dogs far exceeds the number of loving homes available... Please consider how much suffering can be prevented with a simple surgical procedure.""
