GENEVA (WLMI) The Chevy Volt is being named the 2012 Car of the Year at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. The European version of the Volt, the Opel Ampera, is the joint winner of the European Car of the Year honor. This follows General Motors' recent decision to halt production of the plug-in hybrid Volt for five weeks due to slow sales. A panel of international automotive journalists chose the Volt as Car of the Year over the Toyota Yaris, Volkswagen Up, Citroen DS5, Ford Focus, Land Rover Evoque and Fiat Panda.
