ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) - A judge ruled there was proable cause Thursday that an Ashwaubenon man was responsible in the death of his two-month-old baby girl.  30-year-old Scott Conklin was arrested Wednesday for the June 8^th death of Aiela Conklin.  The medical examiner says the infant likely died of asphyxiation, but is still waiting for test results. Charges of first degree reckless homicide are being recommended.  Conklin says he laid the infant face down on the coach and didn’t check up on her for another hour.   At the hospital, Crocker was heard saying “it was all my fault” while talking with a doctor and Lt. Jody Crocker with Ashwaubenon Public Safety.   Authorities arrested Conklin suddenly on Tuesday, after finding out he may be preparing to leave the state and had cleared out a joint banking and savings account with his girl friend and mother of the infant.  But authorities had not confirmed the banking activity at the time of his arrest.  According to the criminal complaint the couple had a strained relationship and were separated, but were trying to work things out.  They also have a two and half year old daughter together. She moved to Marquette, Michigan in May and came back to Ashwaubenon because of a part-time job and to allow Conklin to see his daughters.  The mother told authorities that she warned Conklin numerous times for the way he handled Aiela.  In the past, Conklin apparently laid the infant on her stomach on the coach and also had covered her with a pillow and blanket. Conklin currently serves in the Army Reserves, and before that spent five years in the Air Force.  After bail was set at $5,000, Conklin’s defense lawyer Craig Mastantuono talked with the media.  “He absolutely denies the allegation that he caused his daughter death, and looks forward to answering these, at this point, uncharged allegation by the DA’s office” Mastantuono said.
