GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The Green Bay City Council could vote Tuesday night on adding a proximity ordinance for child sex offenders being near schools and parks. It was part of a plan endorsed by the police department that wanted to see a repeal of the current sex offender residency ordinance in favor of the proximity ordinance. But a recommendedation from a committee only adds the proximity to the current ordinance. Police want to encourage more child sex offenders in reporting where they live, because getting approval from the city is highly restrictive and burdensome, and forces more of them underground.
