Brewers pen falters in KC loss

by
Milwaukee Brewers
Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers let a 3-1, 9th inning lead slip away in a 4-3, 11 inning loss to the Royals in Kansas City Wednesday night.   Randy Wolf turned in his best start in a month, working seven innings and allowing only one run.  Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez delivered run scoring hits as Milwaukee added an insurance run in the 9th for that 3-1 lead.  Closer John Axford walked two batters before giving up a game tying, two run triple from Alcides Escobar.  In the 11th, Kameron Loe worked himself into a jam giving up a couple of hits and another walk before being lifted for Jose Veras.   He promplty walked Mike Moustakas in five pitches to bring home the game winning run.  The fault can't all lie with the relief pitchers, the offense produced 13 hits but left 13 runners stranded.   Milwaukee (28-34) will send Shawn Marcum to the mound to try an avoid the sweep at Kaufman Stadium Thursday night.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke has been named a coach for the National League squad in next month's All Star Game.   Roenicke and Mets manager Terry Collins will be the coaches for NL Manager Tony LaRussa in next months game in Kansas City.
