GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - A huge book sale kicks off Monday thanks to a large donation from a teacher.
Sheila Saunders died earlier this year after a battle with breast cancer. Saunders, a teacher for almost 20 years, collected lots of books and resource materials. But she always wanted to put those resources to where it could be best utilized - in the hands of other teachers.
"Our intent is to help fulfill Sheila's wish to get this in the hands of other teachers so it can be used to educate the children here, " says Adventist Junior Academy teacher book sale volunteer Susan Slikkers.
The AJA got the donation, but it was so large, they barely have enough room for it. So the academy is hosting the book sale Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Green Bay AJA gym, 1422 Shawano Avenue, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
"We are trying to blow out to the walls kind of thing," says Slikkers. "It is all as-is, priced to move, because we want it in the hands of teachers."
There are over 12,000 library and reading books, primarily serving the K-8 range. There's also manipulatives, videos, teaching resources for every subject and almost every topic, classroom supplies and bulletin board options.
Slikkers said they've reached out to 20 of the surrounding area school districts, plus offices of private/parochial schools to help get the word out.
