APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - Two former Town of Dale officials are facing numerous felony charges after allegedly making personal purchases with town credit cards.
Appearing in Outagmie County Court Thursday, former town clerk Marcia Kelly faces 29 felonies for using 4 different town credit cards. Former treasurer Erica Siewert is facing 12 felony charges for making unauthorized purchases using town credit cards.
Last month, the women admitted to the town board that the spending dates back to 2006.
According to the criminal complaint, Kelly spent about $50,000. She used cards from the Wolf River Community Bank and Home Depot. She also opened two Sam's Club accounts for the town, but listed herself as the only authorized user.
The complaint shows Kelly used the cards for purchases at the Ho Chunk Casino in Baraboo, hotels in both Wisconsin and Illinois, phone bills, groceries, and gift cards. She allegedly used town funds to pay them off.
Siewert came forward during a meeting with the town's attorney in February, following an audit earlier this year. She allegedly spent over $28,000 worth of town funds to cover personal purchases. The complaint says she planned to pay it back, but got in over her head.
Kelly and Siewert waived their rights to a preliminary hearing and will make a plea to the charges against them at their next court appearance. Both women resigned from their posts.
If convicted, Siewert could face more than 50 years in prison, while Kelly could get more than 100 years.
