FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - It’s the first military-style vehicle Oshkosh Defense has made for domestic use in this country. It’s called the Tactical Protector Vehicle or “TPV’ and the Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Department has the first one. Sheriff Mick Fink says after the deadly standoff in Fond du Lac last year that took the life of Police Officer Craig Birkholz he was uncomfortable with the old 1960’s “Humber Pig” tactical rescue vehicle they were using.
The “TPV” is bullet proof, can absorb a roadside blast and carries up to nine officers and their gear into hostile situations. William Batten of Oshkosh Defense says the $200,000 “TPV” is the first one made for law enforcement in this country. It replaces the Sheriff’s old 1960’s Humber Pig .
