APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - A sexual assault victim who filed a civil lawsuit against her attacker has been awarded $1.28 million in the 23-year-old case. It was just last year that DNA evidence from the case linked Roman Zareczny to the 1989 assault of a 12-year-old girl at the Reid Municipal Golf Course in Appleton. However, the statue of limitations prevented criminal charges from being filed. Zareczny has openly admitted to the assault. The Outagamie County judge found Zareczny liable in the civil case and ordered the 56-year-old to pay $640,000 in both compensatory and punitive damages. Zareczny is facing other charges related to another sexual assault that occurred months later.
