MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - A $200,000 bond has been ordered for a 17-year-old Milwaukee boy charged in a drunk driving crash on New Year's Day that killed a couple from New Berlin.
Kelly Duke faces 9 criminal charges including homicide by drunk driving, fatal hit and run, vehicle theft, and causing bodily harm while his license was suspended.
Prosecutors said Duke took his aunt's vehicle and sped through a Milwaukee intersection -- and the vehicle sheared the roof off an auto that was stopped for a red light.
The two people in that car, Edwin and Jean Thaves, were killed.
Prosecutors said Duke climbed out the window of his vehicle -- and when a witness asked if he was okay, he ran off.
Duke's brother arrived at the scene a short time later and spoke with police. The teen was arrested later at another relative's house.
Duke is scheduled to return to court a week from Friday for a preliminary hearing.
