MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - A Dane County man is scheduled to be sentenced April 30th, after he pleaded no contest to causing a drunk driving death.
36-year-old Chad Spurley of Verona was convicted on his original charge of drunken homicide. But prosecutors agreed to ask a judge for a shorter sentence, in which Spurley would get 3 to 4 years behind bars plus 6-7 years of extended supervision.
Circuit Judge William Hanrahan could still sentence Spurley to as long as 15 years in prison.
Authorities said Spurley drove his SUV into a tree near Verona last April. His passenger, 36-year-old Davi Dohm of Madison, was killed.
Officials said Spurley’s blood alcohol level at the time was 0.26 – over three times the legal limit for driving.
