MADISON (WSAU) Don't expect any changes to the school voucher program next year.
A year ago Racine was added to the voucher program, and the number of students taking part was increased in Milwaukee County. But school voucher supporters wanted the program expanded to other parts of the state. Republicans dropped that part of the bill because they weren't sure they had enough votes to pass it. They still aren't sure. Yesterday Democrats tried to forced a vote on the measure, hoping it would fail and be off-the-table for the rest of the legislative session. That move was blocked.
The current legislative session ends in March. It's not clear if school voucher expansion will come up then, or will be on-hold until 2013.
