MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin's five largest metro areas had a 20-percent increase in new home-building permits issued last month. MTD Marketing Services said 144 permits for one-and-two-family homes were approved in January in Metro Milwaukee, the Madison-Dane County area, the Fox Valley, the Racine-Kenosha area, and the Green Bay-Door County region. That's up by 24 permits from January of 2011. The biggest increases were in Green Bay-Door County and Racine-Kenosha. Dominic Collar of MTD said more homes were built on speculation in January, as builders took advantage of a mild winter to get a jump on spring sales. He said the same thing happened a year ago.
