FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WSAU) - The use of credit cards may be one of the reasons the Salvation Army kettle drive in Fond du Lac is in danger of failing to meet its goal.

Many shoppers drop their loose change in the red kettles, but with consumers not as likely to use cash for their purchases, there is simply less loose change to share. The problem isn’t unique to Fond du Lac.

The army says it has a donation goal of 156 thousand dollars during this Christmas season and so far less than half of that total – 73 thousand dollars – has been raised in Fond du Lac. A spokesperson says the organization is usually at 70 to 80 percent of its goal at this time in the season.
