MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - A 20-point win over Savannah State marks a significant milestone for the Marquette basketball program.
Hours after Marquette and six other schools officially announced they were leaving the Big East, the Golden Eagles bounced Savannah State 71-51 Saturday.
It was the 1,500th victory in Marquette history.
Vander Blue and Davante Gardner led the way with 14 points each. A 14-2 second-half run put the game away for the Golden Eagles.
Their new conference doesn’t have a name yet, but the 7 schools in the Big East which don’t play FBS-level football will be moving on. Marquette, Georgetown, St. John’s Villanova, DePaul, Seton Hall and Providence made it official Saturday.
