First comes love, then comes marriage. Then comes well, you know the rest. Or at least, that's how the saying is supposed to go but this week's episode of Grey's Anatomy, aptly titled "I Was Made for Lovin' You," decided to shift the order of things a little bit with a pregnancy scare. But that wasn't the only surprise in store for our beloved Seattle Grace doctors by the night's end but we'll get to that in a minute!
As we could have probably suspected, the plane crash victims (made up of Meredith, Derek, Cristina, and Arizona) have indeed decided to move forward with their lawsuit against the hospital, which has the potential of making things around the workplace just a little bit awkward. Okay, exceptionally awkward. (It's basically the equivalent of breaking up with your boyfriend and then proceeding to have Tuesday night dinners at his family's house. It's just plain uncomfortable.) But Owen assures everyone that everything's going to be fine and to just let the lawyers handle it all. It should not affect their work environment. Yeah, okay. However, during Owen's first meeting with the lawyers, it's discovered that he was the one who signed off on switching airplane carriers before the crash. What's wrong with that? Apparently, the company has a history of mechanical failure problems, which clearly no one checked up on. Uh oh
But Owen has more than just lawsuit troubles on his mind. His marriage to Cristina has now hit a huge bump in the road again. (Yeah, remember how they're still husband and wife?) Cristina confronts Owen about why he really brought her back to hospital (since he's pretty much ignoring her), to which he responds saying that she's a good surgeon and it's good for business. But when it comes to their relationship: "We don't work." The statement hits a little too close to home for Cristina, though, who has suddenly realized that she still has feelings for Owen. Maybe there's still hope for these two crazy kids yet, right? Wrong! Owen learns that the reason he hasn't been fired over the airline oversight is because the board hopes the case will be dropped since Owen and Cristina's marriage makes it a conflict of interest (any money Cristina receives in the lawsuit would also go to Owen, thus giving him a financial stake in the matter). But since Owen's a good guy and wants the plane crash victims to get the money they deserve, he sets out to do the only thing he can do: he asks Cristina for a divorce right before she's about to confess her love for him. Man, will these two ever catch a break?
Meanwhile, April's going through a pretty big crisis of her own. After realizing that her period is four days late, she immediately starts freaking out and assumes that she's pregnant. Of course, the classic guy-girl conversation follows when she relays the news to Avery: "I'm late." "For what?" Hilarious. At first, Avery is appropriately freaked out, but he later becomes adorably supportive and lays his true feelings for April on the table. "I'm in, all the way." *Swoons* He even suggests that they get married, to which April enthusiastically replies "yes!" (They're mint to be!, guys!) However, when the results come back showing that April is, in fact, not pregnant, she becomes immediately relieved and thankful that they don't have to tie the knot after all. This reaction, understandably, hurts Avery's feelings, so he decides to call their relationship off for good.
But while some marriages (or almost marriages) are falling apart, others are only getting stronger. Arizona has now officially returned to work, which means Callie is making everyone walk on eggshells to make her feel more comfortable. But her efforts were completely unnecessary. True, she's not as fast as she used to be on those roller-sneakers of hers, but her spirits are up and she's no longer giving Callie death stares (yay!). Even falling down wasn't enough to break her positive outlook on this new life. She got right back up and continued on with her day. Looks like the Old Arizona is back and we couldn't be happier.
Meanwhile, Bailey and Ben are in the midst of making plans for their upcoming nuptials. Bailey wants to have a small, simple wedding, while Ben wants a big, cheesy Christmas affair with all the trimmings. Luckily for us, Ben wins out, so hopefully we can expect another heartfelt Grey's wedding in the near future.
And last, but certainly not least, we're left with the couple who have been the very foundation of the show since Day 1: Meredith and Derek. While Derek has been working hard with Callie to help regenerate all of the nerve strength in his damaged hand, it turns out that Meredith has been doing some regenerating of her own. She's pregnant! After buying Zola a shirt that says "Worlds Best Big Sister" on it, she shows Derek the gift and the two of them celebrate the continued growth of their little, happy family. A-dorable!
