LA CROSSE, WI (WTAQ) - The second of two men charged in the shooting death of a 20-year-old La Crosse woman has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless homicide.
Kong Vue told La Crosse County Circuit Judge Todd Bjerke that he panicked when he entered an unlocked apartment in late March to steal a purse – and he shot and killed Sara Hougom by accident.
Vue said he didn’t know Hougom was in the apartment until he saw her sitting on a couch.
The other defendant, 21-year-old Pao Choua Vue, pleaded guilty earlier to a reduced count of reckless homicide.
Both are scheduled to be sentenced on November 5th.
Pao is Kong Vue’s uncle. Just hours before the murder, authorities said the two men fired bullets at the La Crosse home of an 83-year-old woman who was celebrating her birthday with relatives at the time.
